Lighting Design & Install

Anyone can hang a light.
Placing it is the job.

Downlight layouts that don't leave dark corners, mirror and vanity lighting that's actually flattering, outdoor lighting that survives a Gold Coast summer, and dimming that works with the fittings instead of buzzing at them.

Layout first
We plan the positions on paper before a single hole goes in the ceiling

What's Involved

The lighting work we take on

From swapping tired halogens through to designing a full renovation lighting plan.

D

LED downlights and retrofits

Halogen to LED conversions, correct spacing and beam angles, and colour temperature chosen to suit the room rather than whatever was on the shelf.

F

Feature and mirror lighting

Pendants, strip lighting, backlit bathroom mirrors and vanity lighting — the work that makes a room look finished.

O

Outdoor and security lighting

Weather-rated fittings, sensor floodlights, path and garden lighting, and wiring that stands up to the coastal weather.

S

Dimming and switching

Matched dimmers that don't flicker or hum, two-way switching, and sensible switch placement so you're not walking through a dark hallway to find one.

The Process

How the job runs

1

Walk the space

We look at ceiling height, existing wiring, furniture layout and where the light actually needs to land.

2

Layout and fitting selection

You get a plan with positions and quantities, plus a recommendation on colour temperature and dimming before anything is ordered.

3

Fixed-price quote

One number covering fittings, wiring and labour. If you'd rather supply your own fittings, that's fine — we'll quote labour only.

4

Install and set up

Cut, wire, fit and test. Dimmers commissioned and dialled in, and the mess cleaned up before we go.

Common Questions

The stuff people ask us

How many downlights do I need in a room?

It depends on ceiling height, beam angle and what the room is for — not a fixed number per square metre. A common mistake is too many at full brightness, which flattens a room. We'd rather work out the layout with you than default to a grid.

What colour temperature should I choose?

Warm white (around 3000K) suits living areas and bedrooms. Neutral white (around 4000K) works in kitchens, laundries and garages where you want clarity. Mixing them across an open plan space is the thing to avoid.

Why do my LED lights flicker when dimmed?

Almost always a mismatch between the dimmer and the LED driver. Old dimmers made for halogen frequently won't work with LEDs. It's a fixable problem and doesn't mean the lights are faulty.

Can you install lights I've bought myself?

Yes. Send through the specs first so we can check they're compliant and suitable for where you want them — especially bathroom and outdoor fittings, which need the right IP rating.

Do you do lighting for renovations?

Regularly. The trick is getting the electrical rough-in done at the right point in the build. Best time to call is before the plasterboard goes up, not after.
